Heraklion is the capital of the island of Crete, Greece. It is located on the north side of the island, on the Aegean coast.
The largest and most densely populated area on the island is surrounded by two mountain ranges – Ida on the west and Dictis on the east.
Heraklion is one the most important archeological sites in Crete, and the island has beautiful beaches and picturesque villages. The olive groves, vineyards and towering mountain peaks of Heraklion are extremely memorable.
